Under the supervision of Dr Kerstin Dautenhahn (Reader in Artifical Intelligence). My PhD work is part of the AuRoRA Project which is looking at what, if any theraputic effects robots may have on autistic children.
Employment:
GlaxoSmithKline PLC, Technologies & Infomatics Dep, 1999 - 2000
I worked for a small team of research scientist within the field of prediction. These scientist developed new mathematical models of molecule behaviour within the body. There was only a limited programming and Unix knowledge within the team. It was my job to liaise with the scientist to develop programs of these models. All the programs were written in 'C; and were of a highly mathematical and technical nature. It was my responsibility to develop the programs from start to finish, ensuring that all programs met specification and were functioning without error.

Other interests and achievements:Through both the course and my work placement, I have discovered that I am particularly interested in programming, artificial intelligence and general development. However, I have enjoyed all aspects of computing that I have encountered so far, and I am therefore keeping an open mind regarding the path that I would like to follow.
I believe that one of my major achievements so far has been, returning to full-time education, whilst being a lone parent. This experience has given me the ability to juggle several responsibilities at once, get things done despite interruptions, deal with a variety of problems at the same time, make my voice heard in dealing with officialdom and organise and co-ordinate a wide range of activities and commitments. Finding an area in industry that I am so interested in, not only heightened my determination to succeed, but it also enabled me to envision my future. My main interests outside of computing are my son, socialising and the countryside environment. I like to go on country walks and participate with rural area conservation.
